Oriental University is one of the first non-public universities in Vietnam's higher education system. The University was established under Decision No. 350 / TTg dated July 8, 1994 of the Prime Minister and officially came into operation in accordance with the Decision No. 2282 / GD-ĐT of the Ministry of Education and Training dated 16 August, 1994. The first course was opened on October 24, 1994. This day is the traditional day of the school. 

Oriental University belongs to the national education system of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, under the State management of education and training of the Ministry of Education and Training and educational management agencies according to the division public, decentralized by the Government; At the same time, it is subject to territorial administration of the People's Committee of Hanoi.
